Roamin' In The Gloamin'

Oberon is a Roamin' in the Gloamin'

Roamin' in the gloamin' wi' ma lassie by ma side,
When the sun has gone to rest, that's the time that I like best,
O, it's lovely roamin' in the gloamin'!
Lauder, Sir Harry (Hugh MacLennan)

are at a discount But there is still that awkward question What is the gloaming And what is there in the gloaming that distinguishes it from that which is twilight merely To answer that with any hope of conveying

"...The stillness and freshness of the air the mysterious blackness of the hills the startling white flashes of the little pools looking as though they had absorbed light from somewhere and were loath to part with it.."

..."faded Gradually was darkness spreading over everything and as the darkness spread the stillness and sweetness of the gloaming made itself felt.

faded Gradually was darkness spreading over everything and as the darkness spread the stillness and sweetness of the gloaming made itself felt The stillness and freshness of the air the mysterious blackness of the hills the startling white flashes of the little pools in the moors looking as though they had absorbed light from somewhere and were loth to part with it the faintly reflected colours of the fading sky given back by the burns and streamlets which crossed my path the whispering of the reeds and long grass the great grey boulders looming here and there through the dark heather and bracken boulders behind which at that hour one could not help believing that Kelpies and Pixies were hiding and might dart out at any moment for some Tam o

Oh, to be out roamin' in the gloamin'

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

Amongst the hundredfold things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving is that my lassie Oberon is on the mend and in 3 more months, after being on limited off-leash exercise, she will be finally back to her full activity metal plates, pins, screws and all.

that throws a word away,
I'm surprised mysel' at times
at a' I've got to say:
HOW GOOD TO SEE YOUR LASSIE ROAMIN' AND GLEAMIN' LIKE A JEWEL! As long as she no longer needs Harry Lauder's walking stick ;-)

Oh bloody hell, the silly t*rt that I am, I forgot to wish y'all a happy Thanksgiving !
I have totally lost all the fragments of common sense that I 'might' have had. That Mary Jane that popped up in my garden turned out to be 'grand'!

This is wonderful on so many levels. Your sweet Oberon is a treasure in the gloamin' and the poetry and magic of that space draws me into the photo to do a little roamin' along with her.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

My daughter now in Vancouver reminded me it's Thanksgiving there in Canada. Happy Thanksgiving! What a moving post, brief but evocative as it could possibly be. And what a great term, "gloaming". I loved the line about small bodies of water hanging on to light.

Hit me with a contorted filbert but if you ain't the smartest nut on the tree - you crack me up.

Chillin' with Mary-Jane hasn't dulled your wit none.

You so got Sir Harry's garden connection it knocked me off me chair and set Ober's tail to wagglin'.

Thanks for the beautiful comments.

BTW Your blog shone a lucky light on all of us gardeners. Well done on the Day of Pink which has touched so many of us.

- Thought you would like that name. Just saying " I am going for a walk with Oberon in the wood" evokes the faerie. And so does "Laurel".

Thanks Poetess!

Vancouver - wow - your daughter and I - we're almost neighbours. I'll be there in a couple of weeks to catch Madonna. It's a real beauty of a city -I grew up in Deep Cove North Van - there was lots of gloamin' there, too.

As I am quite near Tottenham Court Road at this very moment and it is in fact near to gloaming along the Thames, it seems an appropriate time to comment...I wanted to say thank you, West Coast Gardener, for the kind words you have left on my own blog(s). I'm not very good at responding to comments, it being all I can do to keep the blogs themselves running, but I do appreciate your thoughts.
Happy Thanksgiving to you,
Arcady

Thanks so much for making my day beautiful indeed with your ceramic creations and mentioning The Garden Brae in your Etsy interview.

Oberon says Hi to Cici and Piper - the sweetest mutts in the world.

Drinking my cup of tea is even more a pleasure as I think of all I know about Assam from your garden blogging.

Tottenham Court - how wonderful!
You must be visiting the British Museum near by. Had a wonderful bit of adventure myself when I got lost trying to find my way from there to Tate Modern.

Your blogs are brilliant and more than enough comment in themselves of your commitment to excellence with the thought provoking, inspired knowledge you share as generous gifts to readers.

Happy Thanksgiving and great to read your blog and thanks for the comments in mine. Wish my Snoop could run free like your dog but if I tried I wouln´t see him again. He´s a hunter and gets him self in troubles all the time. Have a nice day.

Does it count if your dogs name is in a post? If so, then Bracken's name is in this one!
